The Milanese Clementina was kidnapped last May 16 in Kabul. Speaking from the Cantoni home, her father Fabio, said she is well and greets.
Clementina had been 3 years in Afghanistan, where she was working on a project for Afghan widows with the NGO ’Care International’ " the very same NGO for which Margaret Hassan worked for and who was found murdered in Fallujah, Iraq. Four men in the Kabul neighborhood Shahr-e-Naw (New City)( as she was leaving her office. The kidnapping was blamed on local bandits, who released a first video of the captive Clementina, which was later broadcast by Afghan TV station ’Tolo Tv’. There have been repeated calls for her release since May 16 starting from president Ciampi up to Pope Benedict XVI, who issued an appeal during last Sunday’s Angelus.
There have been numerous calls for Clementina’s release in Kabul itself form the very first day of her kidnapping. The Afghan widows on whose behalf she was working delivered daily appeals, as well as hundreds of young female students, who, this very morning, were displaying a red rose sticker to symbolize Clementina [CO]
