Action on HIV/AIDS in the European Union and neighbouring countries 2006 - 2009

Building on its working paper entitled "Coordinated and integrated approach to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic within the European Union and in its neighbourhood", the European Commission is trying to bring together all of the interested parties in a joint action programme. In this paper the Commission lays down targets and measures to be implemented by the end of 2009 for each of the areas in which action is needed. More detailed proposals for the main areas of action for the period 2006 - 2010 are presented in the Annex.

OLAF PUBLISHES ITS ACTIVITY REPORT

A crumbling bridge built with EU money but substandard materials, plagiarism in an EU research project, tomato importers evading customs duties, a retired official trying to increase his pension by illegal means: these are only four examples demonstrating the large variety of cases in which the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) intervened in 2007. OLAF presented today in Brussels its new Annual Activity Report which illustrates its work inside and outside the EU in 15 case studies and numerous statistical tables. At the end of 2007, OLAF was investigating a total of 408 cases.

In your screams at the moment when you feel the jolts from the echoes of your words crossing the threshold of your thought, you send birds fleeing before you. As you breathe, your roses wither. In your moments of madness, crystals fall from your roof. As your field of thought shrinks, your city expands. You exhaust yourself from running down the streets and avenues. As the lamps of your voltage machines alight upon your nights, your humans robotize themselves. The toads in your dirty waters frighten even the crocodiles. Your inner journey makes you grow older. Your internal cries amplify themselves. You manifest difficulties with forty paws. The auxiliary cells of your laboratories do not give you the opportunity to live any pleasurable moments. While the fear indicator inside you slackens you through and through, you have not even the possibility of speaking. With each movement of the clock, the seasons rip themselves out of your heart.
